Privacy Policy

Short version: no ads, no selling data. Analytics cookies are set by one of the two measurement tools — below is exactly what's collected, why, who processes it, how to opt out and how to delete it.

Visit analytics

To see which guides are useful, the site uses two measurement tools in parallel.

Umami — private analytics with no cookies. It doesn't identify you personally: it collects anonymous, aggregated data (the page viewed, device type, country, referrer) and the fact of a click on an "open in maps" link. Your IP address is used only to derive the country and is not stored.

  • Processor: Umami Cloud (umami.is).
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest in improving the content (no personal data).

Google Analytics 4 — runs alongside Umami so the two sets of numbers can be compared. Unlike Umami, it does set cookies: _ga and_ga_*. They store a randomly generated identifier so that several visits from the same browser are counted as one visitor rather than several, and they persist for up to two years unless you delete them. Google Analytics also records the page viewed, the approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and browser characteristics. Google processes this data on its own servers, which may be located outside the EU.

  • Processor: Google (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC), under its own privacy policy.
  • Purpose: audience measurement — counting visitors and pages; no advertising, no remarketing, and the data isn't sold on.
  • How to opt out: block or delete this site's cookies in your browser settings, browse in a mode that blocks tracking, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site works exactly the same either way.

Newsletter

If you voluntarily leave an email address, we'll send roughly one message a month — seasonal-calendar updates (events, food, weather). Signing up requiresexplicit consent (a checkbox) and confirmation via a link in the email (double opt-in): no confirmation, no emails.

  • What we store: only the email address and the date of consent.
  • Processor: Buttondown (buttondown.com) — a newsletter service.
  • Unsubscribe: every email carries an "unsubscribe" link; once you unsubscribe, the address is deleted.
  • We do not use your email for advertising and don't pass it to third parties beyond the newsletter service.

Retention

Umami's anonymised analytics are kept in aggregate form. Google Analytics data is stored on Google's servers for the retention period set for the property; the _gacookies sit in your browser and can be deleted from it at any moment. An email address is kept while the subscription is active and deleted after you unsubscribe or on request.

Your rights

You can request access to your data, its correction or deletion, and withdraw consent at any time — write to [email protected]. EU residents are covered by their GDPR rights.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page. Material changes affecting subscribers will be announced by email.
